VapC15 gene
Usage and Biology
This part contains the gene VapC15 which is a part of the VapBC15 toxin-antitoxin system originating from Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803. The antitoxin’s expression is regulated, and when the molecule is expressed it upregulates the operon’s function by binding to the operator, while at the same time, it destabilizes the toxin, VapC15, by binding on it and creating a cluster. When the production of the antitoxin stops the VapC15 toxin acts as a ribonuclease and either prohibits cell growth or even leads to cell death .[1]
